Meet The Speakers
Dr. Barry Shender
Introductions & Keynote by Dr. Shender
We are excited to welcome Dr. Barry Shender, from the from the US Navy (retired), who will be giving a keynote speech at BEAM. Dr. Shender has spent most of his career at the Human Systems Engineering Department, Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division. His focus was on life support in aviation systems, spinal injury prevention, physiologic monitoring, and responses to environmental stress. He has a PhD in Biomedical Engineering and over three dozen peer-reviewed publications. Please join us as Dr. Shender discusses work his team has done in injury modeling, prevention, and mitigation over the years.

We are also excited to announce that Chief Master Sergeant Christopher L. Dawson (USAF), will be delivering a keynote address as the representative from the Department of The Air Force’s Women’s Initiatives Team (WIT). Chief champions such notable initiatives as maternity uniforms, anthropometric standards, and female specific equipment. He has also spent a large part of his career managing and advocating for Career Enlisted Aviators. He has received numerous awards, including the 2020 Headquarters Air Force Diversity and Inclusion Team of the Year Award.
